Je pensais l’autre jour aux musées et aux galeries que j’aime et surtout à ceux et celles qui ont une ambiance spéciale, un petit quelque chose en plus qui permet de sortir du tableau et de faire partie du lieu. On dit que l’art est partout, qu’il n’a jamais été plus facile de le voir et d’en profiter, qu’il inspire tous les métiers créatifs – et bon nombre d’autres – mais on oublie de parler de la personne qui le regarde et le fait exister d’une façon différente. Quand je suis dans un musée ou une galerie, je suis autant intéressée par les visiteurs que par les œuvres. Parfois, les deux sont tellement en harmonie qu’ils créent un moment parfait, comme une autre œuvre d’art qui aurait été réalisée par un scénographe génial. Les couleurs, les formes, l’espace, tout cohabite d’une façon logique. Ce n’est plus un humain contemplant un paysage ou une sculpture, c’est un tour de magie. On n’a pas besoin d’être érudit, ni riche, ni intelligent, ni de savoir peindre ou sculpter; On peut faire partie de cet univers seulement en étant là, ensemble, au bon moment. Parmi les galeries et les musées où j’ai vu se produire ces petits moments magiques, il y a la galerie Animal à Santiago, Sotheby’s à Londres (où on peut prendre un thé dans le charmant petit café du rez-de chaussée), Saatchi Gallery encore à Londres, le Musée du Prado de Madrid, l’Art Institut de Chicago, la galerie Perrotin et le Musée des Arts Premiers du quai Branly à Paris.
The other day I thought of museums and art galleries that I particularly like and, above all, those that have a special atmosphere, a certain something that allows you to leave the painting and be part of the place. They say that art is everywhere, that it has never been easier to see and enjoy, that it inspires all the creative professions – and quite a few others – but one forgets to mention the beholder, who contemplates, and sees it in his own way. When l am in a museum or a gallery l am often as interested in the visitors as in the works themselves. Sometimes the two are so complementary that they create a perfect harmonious moment, like another work of art, designed by some brilliant scenographer. Colours, forms, space fuse in a logical manner. It is no longer just someone looking at a landscape or a sculpture, but a moment of legerdemain. You don’t have to be erudite, wealthy, particularly intelligent, or know how to paint or to sculpt: you can be part of that universe just by being there when the current passes. Among the museums and galleries where l have experienced these magic moments are the Animal Gallery in Santiago, Sotheby’s in London (where you can have tea in a charming café on the ground floor), the Saatchi Gallery, also in London, the Prado in Madrid, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Perrotin Gallery and the Quai Branly Museum of Primitives Arts in Paris.
