J’étais en train de vous raconter le voyage que j’ai fait cet été en Afrique, mais avant de continuer, je voulais vous parler du week-end dernier à Paris où Bertrand et moi avons organisé notre événement annuel pour l’Association Chirurgie Plus que Bertrand a créée il y a neuf ans. Beaucoup de travail, beaucoup de stress, mais un grand succès.
Beaucoup d’amis sont venus nous soutenir dans le somptueux salon de l’hôtel Meurice qui avait organisé spécialement pour nous un magnifique après-midi. Les hôtesses de l’agence Florence Doré qui nous aide à chaque fois, ont vendu beaucoup de tickets de tombola. Les enfants se sont amusés dans un salon « kids only », avec des films, des jeux et toutes les sortes de bonbons qu’ils n’ont pas le droit de manger chez eux. Bertrand a fait un discours pour expliquer le but de l’association à ceux qui ne la connaissent pas : offrir une formation à des chirurgiens de pays défavorisés, à Paris, dans les meilleurs services de chirurgie, pour qu’ils repartent chez eux avec un savoir immédiatement utile. Nous avions des lots fantastiques pour notre tombola donnés par les grandes maisons de luxe qui nous soutiennent et je crois que tout le monde est reparti heureux. Merci à tous ceux qui sont venus ou ont envoyé un mot de soutien (ou un chèque!). Nous savons que vous avez tous des vies déjà très occupées, alors nous vous sommes encore plus reconnaissants.
Paris – Association Chirurgie Plus 2016
I had started to tell you about my trip to Africa last summer, but before continuing, I wanted to tell you what happened last weekend in Paris. Bertrand and I had organised the annual fund-raising event on behalf of the Association Chirurgie Plus, founded by Bertrand nine years ago. This involved a lot of work and a lot of stress, but it was all worth it because it was a great success.
So many friends came to give us their support in some of the sumptuous salons at the Meurice hotel where they especially organised a wonderful afternoon for us. The Florence Doré hostesses (who faithfully help us every year) sold lots of tombola tickets. The children had great fun in a special “kids only” salon with films, games and all sorts of sweets they’re not allowed to eat at home. Bertrand gave a talk to explain the Association’s aims to those who might not know much about them: namely to provide training for surgeons from less privileged countries in some of the best operating theatres in Paris enabling them to immediately put what they have learnt into practice as soon as they get home. There were some fantastic tombola prizes offered by luxury brands that support us and I think everyone had a great afternoon. A very big thank you to everyone who came or sent a supportive message (or a cheque)! Especially as you have your own very busy lives. MANY HEARTFELT THANKS to you all.
